are you fucking kidding me? this is what the teabaggers are foaming at the mouth over. talk about government intrusion. this is what wendall potter was talking about when he called this bill "an absolute gift" to the insurance industry.

Quote :
The measure would broaden eligibility for Medicaid, the existing
federal-state health program for the poor, and it would create a new
national insurance exchange, where individuals and small businesses can
purchase insurance. Individuals and families would be required to
purchase insurance and would face penalties ranging from $750 to $3,800
for not complying.

FUCK YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!!!

Quote :
Not carrying insurance could result in a steep fine, as much as $3,800
per family, or $950 for an individual. People who can't afford their
premiums would be exempted from the fine.

That's the only part I heard so far that doesn't sit right with me but I don't think that's what they are foaming at the mouth over. I don't even think some of them even know what they are mad about.

I mean look at this:

the requirement aspect can be considered government "intrusion" i suppose, but it's no more intrusive than auto insurance requirements or seatbelt laws. those without insurance simply cost the public more when they do get sick and have to visit a hospital, so making sure they are insured benefits everyone (in theory, and probably true in practice). that might be a little more leftist than some people want to accept, but ultimately it's more about civic responsibility than control. of course the teabaggers are concerned more about the falsehood that the bill covers illegal immigrants, that it's another welfare program from a black president, and that he's a socialist muslim who is trying to destroy the country.

but yeah, seatbelt and helmet laws are bs. as for auto insurance, that is to protect folks from the dipshits who can't drive and fuck up their shit.

seatbelt laws aren't necessarily forced protection on passengers. they mitigate the widespread damage during an accident, which allows for lower costs from emergency teams and quicker cleanup/clearup of the accident site. it's a public benefit. same with helmet laws. you, mopuddin, the individual, are benefited financially and timewise by these laws.
