Quote :
ON SALE SATURDAY: North Park Awesome Fast tix

If you think the North Park Awesome Fast
is going to feature a group of very hungry people sitting around
drinking water and purging toxins from their bodies, guess again.

To be held Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-7, the four-day festival will
feature 55 pop-punk and indie-rock acts. The lineup includes at least
six bands that live in North Park, including Jon Cougar Concentration Camp, Tiltwheel, Behind The Wagon and Vena Cava. Three-day passes, priced at $30 each, go on sale Saturday on the festival's web site. Click here for the lineup and venues.

"It's a totally underground and do-it-yourself event," said festival
co-organizer Jwang, who plays bass in Tiltwheel and sings and plays
guitar in Dan Padilla. "It's also totally non-profit -- all the money
goes to pay the bands."

Jwang, who heads the local indie label Fast Crowd Records, is staging the festival in collaboration with Tood Taylor of Razorcake magazine, The Party's Over Productions, Vena Cava's Coery Cava and Another Zeke Productions.
He said it is entirely coincidental that the offical headquarters for
North Park Awesome Fest -- and the site of its Labor Day pool party --
is the Lafayette Hotel, which early next month hosts the three-day That North Park Music Thing (which debuted last year as North By North Park).

Tickets for North By North Park, which takes place Aug. 7-9, are
$25, incidentally. It will feature 150 acts at 20 area venues,
including The Night Marchers, El Vez, Black Heart Procession, MC Flow and The Modlins.

"The whole North by North Park thing was not affiliated with any
bands from North Park that I know of," said Jwang, himself a North Park
resident.
"As far as the Lafayette Hotel goes, we have friends who work
there and it's a really nice place that's no more than a mile from any
of the venues we'll be using for the bands to play in."

While pop-punk and indie-rock will be the order of the day (and
night) at North Park Awesome Fast, Jwang and his colleagues have coined
a catchy name to describe the event's musical focus: craft-punk. No, not Daft Punk or Kraftwerk, but craft-punk

"There's an entire music audience that's under the radar in San
Diego that is big nationally and internationally, so we're trying to
surprise people by having this festival with bands from all over the
country," Jwang said. "We were going to do 75 bands, but we didn't want
it to get out of hand, so we're shoting for 75. Our optimal attendance
figure for the festival is 600 people and it's strictly an
under-the-radar, word-of-mouth thing."

after stating "north by north park" is now called "north park music thing" they later referred to it as "north by north park" again when providing ticket info.

stating the 3 day north park music thing is $25 when its $25+$15 for the three days to include the bands mentioned.

the 3 bands jeff named are on the sundays "street fest" that require a separate ticket. i havent seen a list of bands for this years north park music thing's friday and saturday bar shows. that said, the "nxnp" last year did have north park related bands playing at those bullshit north park bars.

i didn't go last year, but i kinda remember seeing bands like the atoms, power chords, glossines, etc...on the shows for last year. i tried to look up the show list for this year and didn't see much other than who's playing the street fair.

maybe j was thinking of the "indie fest" bullshit that's been going on the last couple years. i know that thing really has nothing to do with y'know, north park indie rock and shit.

i went to and wokred nxnp last year. the worst part of it was the punters who showed up to try and get famous. here's how things went

future star: "what makes a good press pack?"
tim maze: "we don't open them, we dont look at them, no one does"
future star: "what do you look for in a press pack though?"
len paul: "come hang out at the club and say hi once ina while, you'll probably get a show"
tim: "yeah, dont bother sending us music, go into a bar and see if thats the type of place you hang out in, if you want, send me an email with a link to your myspace:
future star:"so should the press pack have a photo?"

that's pretty funny.

the first time i tried to get a casbah show, i looked at the site and it had these instructions on how to send in a cd and press kit, but i just e-mailed tim and was like "hey, i wanna do this show" and he was like "you can have a thursday." that was good enough for us. the only time we were ever asked to turn in anything was when we tried to play with fu manchu. tim was like "they want to approve the opening bands, do you have a cd or a website?" and i was pfftt we don't have that stuff, so he gave us a show with eddie and the hot rods intstead
